The Ace of Cups card from the Rider-Waite-Smith tarot deck

Cups

Ace of Cups

new feeling · openness · a full heart

Upright

A cup overflowing, held out to you. The Ace is the start of something felt — love, friendship, a creative pull — and the one condition attached is receptiveness. You do have to take the cup.

Reversed

Reversed, feeling is blocked or held back, often for perfectly good historical reasons. The offer is usually still there and quietly being declined.

If this is your card this month

What are you being offered that you haven't let yourself accept?

A card is a prompt rather than a forecast. It doesn't know what will happen, and the useful part is what you do with the question it hands you. We make that case at more length in not a prediction, a mirror.

Where this card came from

If Ace of Cups arrived on a postcard, it was drawn for you for that full moon, and the reflection on the back was written from what it means. And if it didn't, well — that's the other thing we do here: a card and a reflection in your mailbox every full moon.
