The Four of Pentacles card from the Rider-Waite-Smith tarot deck

Pentacles

Four of Pentacles

holding on · security · a tight grip

Upright

Every coin held close. The Four is safety through keeping — money, control, a position — and it does work, right up to the point where your arms are too full to do anything else with them.

Reversed

Reversed, the grip is loosening, or tightening as the fear grows. Either way it's worth asking what the holding on is really about.

If this is your card this month

What are you holding onto out of fear rather than use?

A card is a prompt rather than a forecast. It doesn't know what will happen, and the useful part is what you do with the question it hands you. We make that case at more length in not a prediction, a mirror.

Where this card came from

If Four of Pentacles arrived on a postcard, it was drawn for you for that full moon, and the reflection on the back was written from what it means. And if it didn't, well — that's the other thing we do here: a card and a reflection in your mailbox every full moon.
