The Eight of Swords card from the Rider-Waite-Smith tarot deck

Swords

Eight of Swords

feeling trapped · self-limiting · loose bindings

Upright

Bound and blindfolded, with the swords set in a wide gap and nobody guarding them. The Eight is the trap made mostly of your own conclusions: real constraints, considerably overestimated.

Reversed

Reversed, the bindings loosen as you test them. Sometimes it's a trap you've grown so used to that you describe it as a fact of life rather than a situation.

If this is your card this month

What have you decided is impossible without checking?

A card is a prompt rather than a forecast. It doesn't know what will happen, and the useful part is what you do with the question it hands you. We make that case at more length in not a prediction, a mirror.

Where this card came from

If Eight of Swords arrived on a postcard, it was drawn for you for that full moon, and the reflection on the back was written from what it means. And if it didn't, well — that's the other thing we do here: a card and a reflection in your mailbox every full moon.
