The The Lovers card from the Rider-Waite-Smith tarot deck

The Major Arcana

The Lovers

choice · alignment · union

Upright

Less about romance than about choosing. The Lovers usually turns up around two things that can't both be true at once, and the values that will have to decide between them. Where it does mean a relationship, it means one you entered with your eyes open.

Reversed

Reversed, something is out of alignment: a choice made to keep the peace, or a connection where the two of you want different things and neither has said so yet. It's worth asking what you agreed to that you don't actually agree with.

If this is your card this month

What are you choosing by not choosing?

A card is a prompt rather than a forecast. It doesn't know what will happen, and the useful part is what you do with the question it hands you. We make that case at more length in not a prediction, a mirror.

Where this card came from

If The Lovers arrived on a postcard, it was drawn for you for that full moon, and the reflection on the back was written from what it means. And if it didn't, well — that's the other thing we do here: a card and a reflection in your mailbox every full moon.
