The The World card from the Rider-Waite-Smith tarot deck

The Major Arcana

The World

completion · wholeness · arrival

Upright

The end of a real cycle, and an earned one. The World is the card of the thing finished properly rather than abandoned or left quietly open, and of the particular satisfaction of standing at the end of something you started. Then, gently, the next circle begins.

Reversed

Reversed, you're usually nearly there. A chapter is being left at eighty per cent, or closed on paper while you go on carrying it. The work that remains tends to be small and unglamorous.

If this is your card this month

What is one step from finished, and what is that step?

A card is a prompt rather than a forecast. It doesn't know what will happen, and the useful part is what you do with the question it hands you. We make that case at more length in not a prediction, a mirror.

Where this card came from

If The World arrived on a postcard, it was drawn for you for that full moon, and the reflection on the back was written from what it means. And if it didn't, well — that's the other thing we do here: a card and a reflection in your mailbox every full moon.
