Something has ended. Death is rarely literal and almost always final: a chapter, a role, a version of yourself the next part can't be built on top of. The card isn't unkind about it. It simply declines to help you carry the thing any further.
Reversed
Reversed, the door is being held shut. The ending is happening regardless and is only being drawn out — the job you've mentally left, the relationship that ended months before anyone said so. The cost is the delay rather than the change.
