Have a look at the chains: they're loose enough to lift off. The Devil is the card of the thing you keep choosing while calling it inevitable — a habit, a job, a dynamic that pays you in something you'd rather not name out loud. The bondage is real, and it isn't locked.
Reversed
Reversed, the grip is usually loosening. This is often the moment the pattern gets named and stops working quite so well — or the harder version, where you can see the chain clearly and aren't ready to take it off yet. Both count as progress.
