The The Empress card from the Rider-Waite-Smith tarot deck

The Major Arcana

The Empress

abundance · nurture · creativity

Upright

Something is growing, and its job right now is to be fed rather than hurried. The Empress is comfort and fertility and the ordinary physical pleasures: good food, a made bed, time outdoors. She tends to ask you to tend, which is slower and more satisfying than pushing.

Reversed

Reversed, the care is often flowing one way — everyone else fed, you last. It can also be creativity smothered by over-tending, the project checked so often it never gets room to grow. Usually there's a boundary somewhere wearing a generous face.

If this is your card this month

What are you growing, and are you actually feeding it?

A card is a prompt rather than a forecast. It doesn't know what will happen, and the useful part is what you do with the question it hands you. We make that case at more length in not a prediction, a mirror.

Where this card came from

If The Empress arrived on a postcard, it was drawn for you for that full moon, and the reflection on the back was written from what it means. And if it didn't, well — that's the other thing we do here: a card and a reflection in your mailbox every full moon.
